Payment of metro fare with a bank card
On December 11, 2018, the project on transition of all Kazan metro equipment to contactless payments was officially completed. Now, in addition to transport cards and tokens, all 120 turnstiles at 11 metro stations accept contactless bank cards. The transition to contactless payment is a joint project of MUP Metroelectrotrans, Sberbank of Russia, the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, the City Hall of Kazan, and Mastercard. The contractors are Infomatika and Lanter.
Each turnstile is equipped with a single universal reader that allows you to read information both from transport cards and tokens, and from contactless payment devices. The latter include smartphones, watches, bracelets, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay payment services. Kazan is the second city of Russia, after Nizhny Novgorod, where you can use a contactless card on each metro turnstile to pay for your ride.
The turnstile upgrade project is part of a larger project to modernize Kazan metro payment control system, which started in early 2017. In less than a year, Infomatika has completely replaced the software and control automatics at ten operating Kazan metro stations, developed and fully commissioned automatic ticketing terminals, equipped the new Dubravnaya station with a new type of access control system turnstiles.
